BIDDEFORD, Maine – Sophomore Taylor Rosenblum (Fairfield, Conn.) scored with 1:18 remaining in regulation to help Wentworth Institute of Technology rally for a 1-1 double-overtime draw with the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer match played under the lights at Barbara J. Hazard Field Wednesday evening.
Rosenblum drew Wentworth (1-10-3, 1-4-2 CCC) even when his header off a cross from sophomore Adam Rhodes (Litchfield, Conn.) found the back of the net for the sophomore's first tally of the season. The goal also marked the first time the Leopards had scored in a span of 590:53, dating back to a 2-1 loss to nationally ranked Brandeis on September 25.
UNE had opened the scoring 3:07 into the match when first-year Will Bushey (South Portland, Maine) converted a free kick from 25 yards away.
Each team had a chance to go away victorious during the two overtime periods. Wentworth senior Nick Tuttle (Pittsfield, N.H.) drilled a shot off the right post in the fifth minute of the opening extra session. Less than a minute later, UNE first-year Finn Ducker (Winslow, Maine) narrowly missed a quality opportunity wide right.
UNE sophomore goalkeeper Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario) and Wentworth junior Cody Gibb (Foster, R.I.) had seven saves apiece. The Leopards held slim advantages in shots (14-12), as well as corner kicks (5-3).
Both teams return to action Saturday with CCC games starting at 3:30 p.m. Wentworth hosts Nichols College, and Big Blue heads to Roger Williams University.
