Late Inning Burst Lifts Baseball Past Bridgewater State
Leopards snap an 11-all tie with three runs in the eighth to defeat the Bears, 14-11; Wentworth pounds out 16 hits while Brady Aubuchon locks up the game

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight game the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team put up 14 runs, including scoring late to snap a tie as the Leopards defeated Bridgewater State, 14-11, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
With the win the Leopards improve to 12-18 with their third straight win while the Bears drop to 20-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth got on the board with a single run in the second inning as Jake Prisco drew a bases-loaded walk, which scored A.T. DiPina who led off the inning with a single.
- The Leopards put up four runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead as DiPina doubled in Devon Lapierre who drew a leadoff walk, Nick Cullinan had an RBI single that scored Matthew Favazzo, and Prisco had a two-run single, plating Cullinan and DiPina.
- Bridgewater State got on the board in the home half of the third on an RBI single from Brendan Flaven and a Ryan Flaherty home run an inning later made it a 5-2 game.
- The Bears struck for four in the fifth, which included a two-run single from Kevin Lindsay, and took a 6-5 lead. However, an RBI groundout from DiPina in the sixth evened the score at 6-all.
- Bridgewater State scored three in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-6 lead as Lindsay and Flaven each had RBI singles and Joshua Selander had an RBI groundout.
- Scoring five times in the top of the seventh, Wentworth pulled ahead, 11-9. Mike Sibert had a two-run single Matt Robinson had a two-run single, and Favazzo drove in a run with a single. However, in the bottom of the inning, the Bears struck for a pair to tie the game at 11-all, thanks to an RBI double from Jamie Luna, who eventually came around to score on a Leopard error.
- Christian Roncal led off the eighth inning with a single and went to second on a Jake Samela single. With one out he went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Sibert RBI single. With the bases loaded and two outs, Robinson delivered a two-run single, scoring Samela and Sibert.
- Bridgewater State loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth but Brady Aubuchon got a key strikeout to end the threat. Aubuchon set down the side in order in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Leopards the win.
- Brandon Farinas earned the win (2-2) in relief as he allowed one earned run on a pair of hits and struck out one in an inning of work. Aubuchon notched his second save of the season, pitching 1.1 innings, walking one and striking out one. At the plate, Favazzo and Cullinan had three hits each. Robinson had a pair of hits and four RBI, Sibert had a pair of hits and three RBI, while Prisco also drove in three. Roncal reached base five times, which included a program record-tying four walks.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Today was the 16th all-time meeting between the two teams.
