WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team dropped a pair of Conference of New England games Friday afternoon, falling to Nichols, 4-2, in the opener and, 6-2 (eight innings) in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: Nichols 4, Wentworth 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With one out and a runner on first, an error allowed Nichols to have runners on first and second. After a fly out, Adam Pivacek hit a home run, putting the Bison on top, 3-0.
- Wentworth got a run back in the home half of the second inning, cutting the lead to 3-1. With one out, Christian Roncal doubled and with two outs, Prisco singled in Roncal.
- The Bison took a 4-1 lead after a Andrew Croteau home run in the top of the fourth inning.
- Wentworth again cut the lead to two with a single run in the fifth inning, thanks to a leadoff home run from Jake Samela. In the bottom of the sixth, Matt Robinson and Matthew Favazzo hit back-to-back singles, however, a double play and fly out ended the Leopards' threat.
- The Leopards had the tying run at the plate with two outs in the home half of the seventh but were unable to score.
- Favazzo and Roncal each had a pair of hits. Nigel Cross took the loss (4-4) in a complete-game effort, allowing one earned run and striking out three.
GAME TWO: Nichols 6, Wentworth 2 (8)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Robinson hit a one-out single in the bottom of the first and went to second on a Favazzo single. DiPina grounded out, moving both runners up 90 feet, before an infield single from Nick Cullinan gave the Leopards a 1-0 lead when Robinson scored.
- An inning later, the Black & Gold added a run to their lead when Mike Sibert singled in Samela. Samela led off the inning getting hit by a pitch and went to second when Prisco was hit by a pitch.
- Alec Peruzzi was perfect through the game's first three innings before yielding a leadoff single in the fourth to Ben Jerome. Jerome would eventually come around to score on a Karl Miller RBI groundout and a Pivacek RBI single tied the game at 2-all.
- Nichols had runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the seventh but Brady Aubuchon induced a groundout to keep the game ties. In the home half of the inning, Wentworth went down in order, sending the game into extra innings.
- The Bison scored four times in the top of the eighth inning as Anthony Hackert had a two-run singles and he and Croteau came into score on a wild pitch. Down to its final at-bat, Robinson led off with a walk and with one out, he moved to second when DiPina walked. However, a double play ended the game.
- Robinson and Favazzo each had two hits for the Black & Gold. Aubuchon took the loss (0-2). Peruzzi struck out five in five innings of work, while Ferrara struck out two of the three batters he faced in the sixth.
