Peruzzi, Cullinan Guide Baseball Past Framingham State

BOSTON, Mass. – Nick Cullinan went 4-for-4 and Alec Peruzzi allowed one run and struck out 11 over seven innings as the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team defeated Framingham State, 5-1, on Wednesday afternoon
With the win the Leopards improve to 5-5 on the season while the Rams drop their season opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth got on the board in the bottom of the second as Josh Turcotte led off with a double and went to third on a Christian Figueroa ground out. Caleb Cormier was hit by a pitch and went to second on a wild pitch. Bryden Marcotte beat out an infield single which allowed Turcotte to score.
- Framingham State tied the game in the top of the third on a Rosco Palmer RBI single, however, the Leopards answered back in the home half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. With one out, Cullinan singled and went to second when Matthew Favazzo was hit by a pitch. Both runners stole bases and Turcotte delivered an RBI single to plate Cullinan.
- The Black & Gold tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth inning as, with two outs, Robinson delivered an RBI single that scored Figueroa, who had led off with a walk, and Cullinan had an RBI single that plated Christian Roncal, who had a two-out infield single.
- Cullinan delivered another RBI in the eighth as, with two out, Roncal singled, stole second, and went to third on a passed ball. Cullinan had a hard hit infield single to bring him home.
- Peruzzi improved to 2-0, allowing four hits and walking just one in his outing. Nigel Cross pitched the eighth, allowing one hit and striking out two, while Bennett Leary pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing a hit.
- In addition to Cullinan's four hits, Roncal and Turcotte each had a pair of hits. Cullinan also had a pair of RBI.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Today was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
