Robinson's Six Hits Help Pace Baseball to Sweep of Vermont State Lyndon
Matt Robinson recorded six hits on the day, including the 100th of his career as the Leopards swept the Hornets, 17-5, and 7-3

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – Matt Robinson recorded six hits, including he 100th of his career as the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team swept Vermont State Lyndon, 17-5, and 7-3.
GAME ONE: Wentworth 17, Vermont State-Lyndon 5
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth put up four in the first inning with the biggest blow coming when Robinson belted a home run to make it 4-0. That home run was the 100th hit of his career, making him the 27th player in program history to hit the century mark. Earlier in the inning, Lukas Poirier reached on an error that drove in Mike Sibert and Nick Cullinan had a double which brought in Poirier.
- After Lyndon got on the board in the top off the second on an RBI groundout, the Leopards put up two in the home half of the inning when Cullinan reached on an error that drove in Alex Dayton and Caleb Cormier. The Black & Goild made it 7-1 in the third, thanks to an RBI double by Dayton.
- The Hornets pulled to within a pair at 7-5 in the top of the fourth, using a two-run single, a one-run single, and scoring on a Wentworth error. However, the Leopards responded with a seven-run bottom of the frame as Robinson had an RBI triple, Josh Turcotte had a sacrifice fly to bring in Robinson, Cormier and Dayton each had RBI singles, and, with the bases loaded, Poirier cleared them with a three-run triple to make it 14-5.
- Wentworth tacked on three in the bottom of the sixth to round out the scoring. John Golebieski had a pinch-hit, RBI double, Cullinan added an RBI single that drove in Christian Roncal, who had a pinch-hit single, and, on the play, Golebieski scored on an error.
- Robinson was 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run, and three RBI. Dayton was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Poirier was 3-for-4 with four RBI, Cullinan was 2-for-5 with four RBI, and Jake Samela was 2-for-4. On the mound, Nigel Cross improved to 1-3, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits, and striking out four in four innings. Jack Titley pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two, while Connor Whitehead pitched a scoreless seventh, setting the side down in order.
GAME TWO: Wentworth 7, Vermont State Lyndon 3
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth put up four in the home half of the first inning. Mike Sibert led off with a walk and stole second. He came around to score on a Roncal double and Cullinan had an RBI single to drive in Roncal. After a Robinson single put runners at first and second, Turcotte singled in Cullinan to make it 3-0. Robinson scored on a Samela ground out.
- Lyndon got on the board in the top of the second, as with runners at first and second, a pickoff attempt at first led to a steal of home. IN the bottom of the inning the Leopards put up two more runs to take a 6-1 lead. Cormier led off getting hit by a pitch and went to second on a Dayton sacrifice bunt. Sibert tripled in Cormier and scored himself on a wild pitch.
- The Hornets made it 6-2 in the top of the fourth manufacturing a run on an RBI single after a single and a stolen base. In the bottom of the fifth, the Black & Gold made it 7-2 when Matthew Favazzo singled in Robinson. With one out, Robinson singled and with two outs, stole second before coming into score on Favazzo's single.
- Lyndon made things interesting in the seventh as a walk and a hit batter opened the inning. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and an RBI ground out made it 7-3. The Hornets had the bases loaded with one out, however, Joseph Sinibaldi got a line out and a fly out to lock down the win.
- Robinson went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored while Sibert was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
- Aaron Masson improved to 2-0, allowing a pair of runs on five hits while striking out six in four innings. Jace Rogers pitched two scoreless innings, allowing three hits, before yielding to Jacob DeCoste, who pitched a third of an inning. Sinibaldi recorded his first career save pitching the final two-thirds of an inning.
