The Leopards fell in both games to the Golden Bears
WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team fell in both games of the Sunday doubleheader against the Western New England Golden Bears. Wentworth falls to 11-8 this season with a 1-3 record in conference play.
GAME 1: Western New England 7, Wentworth 4
Matthew Favazzo went 3-4 while Alex Dayton went 2-4 with two runs. Mike Sibert and Josh Turcotte both went 2-4 with Turcotte adding a run. Aarson Masson fell to 2-1 this season after 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and five earned runs. Tommy Crowely threw 2.0 innings and struck out two while Jace Rogers and Joseph Sinibaldi each struck out one batter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wentworth took the lead in the third inning after Caleb Cormier grounded out to score Dayton. Lukas Poirier flied out to bring in Cormier to give the Leopards a 2-0 lead.
- The Golden Bears had a big sixth inning that started with RBI singles from Alex Grenier and Greg Nivision to tie the game. Connor Cowern doubled down the left field line to score two, putting the visitors in front. The Golden Bears tacked on another run to lead 5-2 in the middle of the sixth inning.
- Turcotte came in to score on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the lead to two runs. Western New England tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to stretch the lead to 7-3 late.
- Nick Cullinan flied out to center to score Dayton and make it 7-4, but the Leopards could not claw back into the game and fell in game one.
GAME 2: Western New England 15, Wentworth 5 (8 INN.)
Christian Roncal went 1-2 with a run and three RBI while Turcotte tallied one run and one hit. Cyle Archer and Jake Bartlett each tallied one hit and one run and Archer added an RBI. Nigel Cross fell to 1-4 this season after 4.1 innings and four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Western New England opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double from Corey Kilroy. Matt Robinson scored on a double play in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1.
- The Golden Bears regained the lead in the third inning with a pair of runs. Kilroy tallied another double to give the visitors a 3-1 lead. Kilroy continued to hit well for the Golden Bears, hitting a triple in the top of the fifth to score another run before coming in to score himself on a wild pitch to make it 5-1.
- Western New England walked in a sixth run before a grand slam from Mark Zigmont made it 10-1 to the visitors. Tyler Waterbury hit a grand slam in the same inning as the Golden Bears stretched the lead to 13 runs.
- Roncal drilled a three-run homer to right field in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Leopards within 10 runs. Jacob Kreis followed with a solo home run in the sixth to make it 15-4. Archer's RBI double in the bottom of the frame made it 15-5.

- Today was the 39th & 40th all-time meeting between the teams.
