Baseball Cruises to Victory Over New England College
Caleb Cormier goes off for 4 hits, 3 runs, & 2 RBI as the Black & Gold cruise to a dominant win over New England College
HENNIKER, N.H. – Caleb Cormier went 4-5 with three runs and two RBI to lead the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team to a 17-0 drumming of New England College on Thursday afternoon. The Leopards' offense exploded with 10 players recording a hit. Matt Robinson had two hits and three RBI while Christian Roncal had two runs and two RBI. Lukas Poirier went 2-3 with two runs. Michael Archambault got the start on the mound and earned the win to improve to 2-1 this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Leopards' offense got rolling right off the bat after Cyle Archer scored on a wild pitch. Roncal scored on Robinson's RBI groundout before Josh Turcotte's double brought in Nick Cullinan to make it 3-0 Wentworth. Another wild pitch brought in Turcotte before Cormier's RBI single brought in two runs to make it 6-0. Roncal brought in another run and the Leopards led 7-0 after one.
- After a scoreless second inning, the Leopards went back to work, tacking on another run after Archer drew a walk. Cullinan drilled a double to right center to score Archer and give Wentworth a 9-0 lead through three innings.
- The Leopards' defense kept the Pilgrims off the board in the third and the offense continued to roll in the fourth with Archer's RBI single pushing the lead to 11-0. Cullinan's sacrifice fly and Robinson's RBI single stretched the Leopards' advantage to 13-0. Jacob DeCoste struck out two hitters in the fourth to keep the shutout alive.
- Robinson brought in another run in the sixth, making it a 14-0 game. Joseph Sinibaldi entered the game and struck out one in a 1-2-3 frame to send the game to the seventh inning.
- Bryden Marcotte hit a single through the right side to score Andrew Pantano to give Wentworth a 15-0 lead. Roncal brought in another run before coming in to score himself to stretch the lead to 17-0. Luke Ryan threw a scoreless bottom half of the frame and Wentworth came away with a big shutout victory.

- Today was the 38th all-time meeting between the teams.
