Baseball Fends Off Hartford
The Black & Gold win 6-4 in a CNE matchup with the Hawks
WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team held off the Hartford Hawks in a back-and-forth battle at Libby Field on Tuesday night. Josh Turcotte went 3-4 with two runs and two RBI and Matthew Favazzo added two hits, one RBI, and one run. Aaron Masson threw 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and Nigel Cross improved to 3-5 this season after 2.0 frames. Alec Peruzzi earned his second save of the season with a one strikeout in one frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jeremy Mangiameli gave the Hawks the lead in the second inning with a single through the left side to score Jackson Ciccone. The Leopards answered in the bottom half of the frame after Samela's single to center scored Turcotte and Robinson to give Wentworth a 2-1 lead.
- Mangiameli tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single and gave Hartford the lead with a solo home run in the top of the seventh. The Leopards answered in the bottom half of the frame with Turcotte's solo homer tying the game 3-3.
- Sibert put the Leopards in front in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to right field that scored Favazzo. The Hawks quickly evened the game again in the top of the eighth inning behind Alek Popovich's solo home run to right center.
- Turcotte hit an RBI single to left to bring in Roncal and put the Leopards in front 5-4. Favazzo followed with a hit to score Robinson and give Wentworth a 6-4 cushion in the ninth inning.
- Peruzzi entered the game for the ninth and got two fly outs before getting a big strikeout to finish the game. The Leopards won 6-4 and picked up a big conference victory.
THE SERIES
- Today was the 5th all-time meeting between the teams.
