Rivier Holds Off Baseball
The Leopards fought back to make it a one-run game but ultimately fell to the Raiders in a Thursday non-conference meeting
NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team fell to the Rivier Raiders, 5-4, on Thursday afternoon. Nick Cullinan went 2-3 with one run and one RBI while Matt Robinson went 2-4 with one run and one RBI. Matthew Favazzo added a hit and one RBI while Josh Turcotte, Lukas Poirier, and Christian Roncal each tallied one hit. Jacob DeCoste threw 2.2 innings with four earned runs. Michael Archambault, Chase Carder, Bennett Leary and Jack Titley all saw time on the mound, each striking out one hitter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders opened the scoring in the third inning after Brady Balint's RBI single. A double from Nathan Innerfield scored two before a single up the middle gave the hosts a 4-0 lead through three innings.
- Wentworth answered in the fourth with an RBI single from Favazzo bringing in Robinson to make it a 4-1 game. Rivier pushed the lead back to four runs in the fifth with one run scoring in the frame.
- After three scoreless innings, the Leopards' offense found a rhythm and cut into the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Cullinan's infield single scored Dayton to make it 5-2 before Robinson's single up the middle cut it to 5-3.
- A passed ball brought in Cullinan to bring the Leopards within one run heading into the bottom half of the inning.
- Wentworth had a runner on second in the ninth, but could not bring in the tying run as Rivier held on to win the game 5-4.
THE SERIES
- Today was the 4th all-time meeting between the teams.
