Baseball Downs Mass. Maritime
The Leopards take down the Bucs to win back-to-back games ahead of the final pair of regular-season games
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Baseball won its final non-conference matchup with a 9-5 win over Mass. Maritime on Thursday afternoon. Nick Cullinan went 2-3 with one run and one RBI and Christian Roncal went 2-3 with two runs and one RBI. Matt Robinson added two hits and one run while Lukas Poirier had one hit and two RBI. Ethan Purcell struck out two hitters in 2.0 innings of work and improved to 1-0 this season. Bennett Leary and Brandon Farinas each tallied one strikeout. Chase Carder closed the game on the mound to secure the win for the Leopards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maritime opened the scoring in the first inning after Aidan McCarthy drew a walk to bring in the opening run. A passed ball scored a second run before an RBI single from Colsen Loughren made it 4-0 to the Buccaneers.
- Wentworth got on the board in the third inning after Robinson singled down the right field line to score Jake Bartlett. Turcotte followed with an RBI single to center before Roncal's single up the middle brought in Favazzo to make it a 4-3 game.
- Poirier drove in two runs with a single to left center in the fifth inning to give the Leopards the lead. Roncal then scored on a wild pitch to put Wentworth in front 6-4. The Bucs got one back in the bottom of the inning to make it a one-run game.
- Cullinan's triple to right in the sixth inning gave the Leopards a two-run edge before they tacked on two more in the seventh. Roncal scored as Samela reached first on a throwing error before Bartlett's double to right center brought in Samela and gave Wentworth a 9-5 lead.
- Carder came in for the ninth inning and got a quick out before the defense turned a double play to secure the victory.

- Today was the 38th all-time meeting between the teams.
