Cullinan Highlights Baseball’s Postseason Awards
Nick Cullinan is the CNE Scholar Athlete of the Year and earns All-Conference Second Team honors; Four other Leopards earn all-conference selections
BEVERLY, Mass. – Nick Cullinan has been named the Conference of New England Scholar Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Alec Peruzzi earned an All-Conference First Team selection and Cullinan also earned All-Conference Second Team honors. Christian Roncal and Josh Turcotte were named to the All-Conference Third Team and Cooper Smith represents the Leopards on the CNE Community Service Team.
Cullinan, a construction management major, received the scholar athlete award for the second time this year after earning the same award for his academic excellence during the winter season. The senior is member of the Wentworth hockey team and baseball team, holding a 4.0 throughout the year to earn the award.
Additionally, Cullinan earned a spot on the CNE All-Conference Second Team after making 39 appearances in his senior season. He was eighth in at bats (156) and eighth in hits (54) in the league while adding 31 RBI, 11 doubles, and one triple. Cullinan hit .346 with a .429 slugging percentage. In the field, he totaled 291 putouts, third best in the conference, for a .997 fielding percentage, sixth in the conference.
Peruzzi has been a major figure on the mound in his career and was one of the top pitchers in the conference this season. The senior appeared in 14 games, making 10 starts with a 6-2 record. Those six wins were tied for third in the conference. He led the league with two saves and was eighth in the conference with a 3.71 ERA. Peruzzi was fourth in the league with 68.0 innings pitched and finished the season with 561 strikeouts, fourth in the conference.
Roncal earns third team honors after appearing in 35 games with a team-high .355 batting average, ninth best in the conference. The junior totaled 38 hits, 33 RBI, eight doubles, two triples, and two home runs. Roncal had a .523 slugging percentage and a .468 on base percentage while recording 76 putouts for a .963 fielding percentage.
Turcotte was a big hitter for the Leopards this season, making 40 appearances in his sophomore season. He led the team and sat fifth in the league with 57 hits and his .354 batting average was second on the team. He was tied for second in the conference with 19 doubles and second with 43 RBI. With 88 total bases, he was fourth in the league and his slugging percentage of .547 was ninth best. Turcotte totaled 115 assists, third best in the league, and 76 putouts for a .955 fielding percentage.
Smith represents the Leopards on the CNE Community Service Team. The senior was a team captain, helped coordinate team activities and dinners, assisted with awareness games, and helped coordinate groups for off campus volunteer work and fundraising opportunities. He also helped with the team's annual golf tournament and assisted coaches with team meal organization and preparation for road trips. Smith also contributed to the baseball team's Team Impact signing and activities as well as the Wentworth SAAC social media campaigns.
