Vartanian Named CCC Rookie of the Week

BOSTON, Mass – Freshman Matt Vartanian (Salem, N.H.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team helped the Leopards to a 2-0 week and has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. Vartanian earns the honor for games played from Jan. 16-22.

Vartanian averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 66.7 percent (14-for-21) from the floor. In an 86-78 win at Gordon, Vartanian scored 12 points and dished out three assists. He finished the week by recording his second double-double of the season as he scored 21 points (on 8-for-11 shooting) and grabbed 10 rebounds while also dishing out a pair of assists in a 71-55 win over Nichols. That win snapped a seven-game series losing streak to the Bison.

Starting 14 of the 17 games in which he has played, Vartanian is averaging 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 59.4 percent from the floor. In his last four games he is a combined 30-for-44 (68.1 percent) from the floor.

Winners of four straight contests, Wentworth (8-9, 6-4 CCC) is at the University of New England on Wednesday.
