Men’s Basketball Cruises to 89-56 Win Over Johnson & Wales
Three players hit double figures as the Black & Gold earn their first CNE win of the season. Russel Dolabany scored 16 points to lead the team while Jayden Williams and Chase Mello scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.
BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team shot 55% from the field to beat Johnson & Wales 89-56 to earn its first CNE victory of the season. Russel Dolabany led the Black & Gold with 16 points while Jayden Williams and Chase Mello scored 15 and 13 points, respectively. Dylan Olson grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and added eight points. Colin Mannke scored nine points to go with four rebounds. Head Coach Jason Chornyei gets first win with the Black & Gold.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wentworth opened the game with a 15-0 run with Dolabany and Olson knocking down threes. Davis Lunn added a layup while the defense frustrated the Wildcats' offense. Hunter Larson hit another triple and Dolabany added a layup to give Wentworth a commanding 26-10 lead at the midway mark of the first half.
- The Leopards pressure forced Johnson & Wales into tough shots while also grabbing defensive boards to maintain the lead. Mello's three and Donovan Holway's finish stretched the lead to 33-15 with seven to play in the half. The Leopards shared the ball with every player getting on the scoresheet. Sean Racette's layup in the final seconds sent Wentworth into the halftime break with a 52-31 lead.
- The Black & Gold continued to roll to open the second half with Mello draining a three on the host's first possession. Dolabany hit a three after a steal from Mannke, keeping the Leopards in complete control. Wentworth pushed its lead to 74-44 at the midway point of the second half.
- Dolabany added a few free throws to his tally in the final 10 minutes of the game while Williams completed two tough and-one plays. The Leopards' momentum did not break throughout the game, dominating on both ends of the floor. Williams and Mello made shots late and Wentworth came away with the 89-56 victory.
