BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team battled hard but fell to the Hartford Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Colin Mannke tallied a team-high 13 points and eight rebounds while Donovan Holway added seven boards and six points. Davis Lunn shot 3-5 from behind the arc and finished with 11 points, four steals, and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mannke scored the first five points for the Leopards, hitting a jumper and three in the first 90 seconds of the game. Hartford answered with a 15-0 run to lead 17-5, forcing Wentworth into a timeout. Kyle Winters and Kaosi Chijoke drilled threes out of the break to push the lead to 18 points with 11:30 to play. Holway's layup ended the scoring drought for the Leopards who trailed 24-9 at the midway mark of the half.
- Winter hit another three and the Leopards burned another timeout, looking for a way to stop the Hawks' offense. Sean Racette hit one of two free throws, but Hartford stayed in control, forcing tough shots and keeping Wentworth off the board. Free throws from Mannke and Chase Mello with under five minutes to play made it 33-14 before a three from Drew Stack stretched the lead to 22 points. Hartford led 38-14 at the halftime break.
- Holway grabbed a steal before Mannke's layup got the Leopards started in the second half. Lunn knocked down a three a minute later, but the Hawks answered to keep the lead at 21 points. The Leopards' defense held Hartford scoreless for nearly three minutes but could not take advantage and cut into the lead. The visitors held a 47-33 edge at the midway point of the half.
- Jayden Williams got on the board with four straight points for Wentworth. Russel Dolabany and Racette had two quick scores to bring the Leopards within 12 points but five in a row from Hartford pushed the lead back to fifteen. Mannke and Racette hit shots late, but Hartford held on to win 67-50.
