Men’s Basketball Rolls Past NEC for Third Straight Win
The Leopards end the season on a three-game win streak, winning five of the last six games
HENNIKER, N.H. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team took down the New England College Pilgrims for the second time in three days. The Leopards win their third straight game and fifth in the last six games to close the season. Russel Dolabany and Davis Lunn each scored 15 points to lead the team. Colin Mannke recorded his seventh double double of the year with 10 points and 10 boards while Chase Mello and Mike Yentin added nine points apiece. Wentworth dominated the glass, outrebounding the Pilgrims 52-35.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams were evenly matched in the opening five minutes with the 6-5 early on. Aiden Flaherty hit one of two from the line before a three from Mello pushed the lead to 11-5. Lunn scored the next five points as Wentworth opened an 11-point lead. Josh Robie ended the scoring drought for NEC, but his jumper was answered by Dylan Olson on the next possession, restoring Wentworth's 11-point advantage. Lunn and Jayden Williams combined for seven points as the Leopards led 25-7 at the midway mark of the half.
- Andy Weeman and Flaherty added buckets out of an NEC timeout to extend the lead further. After nearly two scoreless minutes for both teams, Yentin drained a three and Wentworth was in complete control with a 32-7 lead. Donovan Holway scored two buckets and Mannke drilled a three while the defense kept the Pilgrims quiet in the final minutes of the first half. Mannke hit another three in the final 10 seconds, and Wentworth took a 44-17 lead into the break.
- Mello and Dolabany combined for five early points to extend the lead to 32 points. The pair added buckets over the next few minutes as the advantage grew to 53-19. The Pilgrims cut into the lead with a 10-5 run but free throws from Lunn and a layup from Yentin stopped any momentum. Dolabany's three made it 69-33 at the midway mark of the second half.
- Lunn and Yentin added to their tallies and Dolabany finished a layup as the lead grw to 78-42 with 6:32 remaining. Sean Racette and Hunter Larson came off the bench to score as the game approached the final two minutes. The Pilgrims cut into the lead late, but the Leopards came away with the 84-55 win.
