Golf Places Sixth at CCC Fall Qualifier

HALIFAX, Mass. – Junior Nick Shemkovitz (Meriden, Conn.) tied for medalist honors with a three-over 75 as defending conference champion Western New England took home first place at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Fall Golf Qualifier. The event was hosted by Wentworth Institute of Technology at the par 72, 6,734-yard Country Club of Halifax.

With the Golden Bears' first-place finish, they will host the two-day CCC Championship, at a site to be determined, on April 30-May 1. Joining Western New England at the conference championship will be Endicott and Roger Williams, which each tied for second with a 312, and Nichols which finished fourth with a 318. The winner of the conference championship will receive an automatic berth into the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, to be held May 10-13 in Rochester, N.Y.

Wentworth finished sixth in the seven-team field, shooting a team total of 337. Senior Brad Tyler (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Brian Bak (South Hadley, Mass.) each shot an 82 to finish tied for 18th. Senior Alec Foucault (Putnam, Conn.) finished for 22nd with an 84 and sophomores Paul Arsenault (Middleton, Mass.) and Enrique Arrieche (Caracas, Venezuela) both finished tied for 27th with an 89.

Roger Williams sophomore Josh Unkrich (Bristol, Conn.) tied Shemkovitz for medalist honors, while Western New England junior Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished a shot behind with a four-over 76.

University of New England senior Paul Butkevich (Pomfret, Conn.), Golden Bear sophomore Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.), Roger Williams sophomore Derek Deveraux (Brunswick, Maine), Endicott junior Dan Negus (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior Austin Teal (Loudonville, N.Y.), and Nichols junior Nick Wage (Holden, Mass.) all tied for fourth, shooting a five-over 77.

Wentworth will compete in the ECAC Division III New England Championship this weekend at The Ranch Golf Course in Southwick, Mass.
