Oliver Earns CCC Goaltender, Rookie of the Week Honors
Sophomore Will Oliver honored for his 35-save performance in a 2-1 win over nationally ranked Endicott
BOSTON, Mass. – After backstopping the Wentworth ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over league-leading and 12th-ranked Endicott on Saturday, sophomore goalie Will Oliver (Chesterfield, Mo.) has been named both the Commonwealth Coast Conference Goaltender and Rookie of the Week. Oliver, who picks up his second award in each category this season, earned the honor for games played from January 17-23.
Tying a career-high with 35 saves, Oliver made 16 of those saves in the first period and held the Gulls off the scoreboard over the final 41:43 of regulation and 2:41 of overtime. His final save of the contest came when Endicott was on an odd-man rush and eventually led to possession in the Gulls' zone and the game-winning tally.
For the season, Oliver has played in 11 games (nine starts) and has a 3-5-2 record with a .910 save percentage and a 2.70 goals against average to go along with two shutouts.
Wentworth hosts nationally ranked University of New England on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
