EAST BOSTON, Mass. – Daniel McKiernan recorded a hat trick to help pace the Suffolk University ice hockey team past Wentworth Institute of Technology, 5-0, in Conference of New England play Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Rams improve to 2-1-0 (2-0 CNE), while the Leopards stand at 1-2-1 (1-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The teams traded scoring chances and power-play opportunities throughout the beginning of the contest before Suffolk got on the board with a shorthanded tally at the 13:49 mark. Scott McManus scored from Ralph Berry to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
- Suffolk scored three times in the second period to take a 4-0 lead. McKiernan scored from Alex Ondos at 3:26 and added another tally at 12:24 to make it 3-0. With 5:59 left, Bobby Lachance scored from Josh Milso and Quinn Booth to up the lead to 4-0.
- Just 25 seconds into the third period, McKiernan notched the hat trick with Lachance and Milso picking up assists on the power-play goal.
- Jack McGovern made 34 saves for Wentworth. Jake Hines and Desmond Johnson each had a team-high shots on goal.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Tonight was the 50th all-time meeting between the two teams with Wentworth holding a 25-22-3 series edge.
