Hockey Edged in Home Opener
Leopards fall to nationally ranked Gulls, 2-0, in home opener; Jack McGovern makes 30 saves

EVERETT, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team was edged in its home opener, 2-0, by Endicott.
With the win, the 13th-ranked Gulls improve to 2-0-0 overall and 1-0 in Conference of New England play while the Leopards slip to 1-3-1 (1-2).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Endicott carried play early in the first period, however, Wentworth countered with four blocked shots and Jack McGovern made a pair of saves. The Leopards had their first shot attempt of the contest with just over 12 minutes left in the frame.
- The Gulls got on the board at the 9:14 mark when Primo Self was set up in front by Carson Nickulas and Michael Casey. Endicott continued to pressure Wentworth's defense with McGovern finishing the period with 11 saves.
- The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Gulls until the 18:53 mark when Kyle Furey carried the puck in the defensive zone and passed it to Collin Kleiser. Kleiser sent a long pass ahead to Casey, who gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.
- McGovern made four saves in row early in the third period, helping to keep it 2-0. With 1:56 left, he was pulled for an extra attacker, in hopes of a late Leopard Surge. Desmond Johnson had a pair of shot attempts during this span, with one of the two going on net.
- McGovern finished with 30 saves. The Leopards killed off all three shorthanded attempts on the night.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Tonight was the 28th all-time meeting between the two teams.
