EVERETT, Mass. – Aidan O'Connell scored four of his team's five goals to help the Suffolk University hockey team defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 5-0, in Conference of New England play Friday night.
With the win the Rams improve to 7-7-1 overall and 7-3-1 in CNE play while the Leopards fall to 4-10-1 (3-8-0).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With his team on the power play, O'Sullivan got Suffolk on the board at the midway point of the opening period when he put home a Michael Gallagher shot that had hit the crossbar. Suffolk had a 15-3 shot advantage in the first period.
- Joe O'Brien put the Rams on top, 2-0, when he scored at 4:57 of the second period before O'Connell gave the visitors a 3-0 lead with his second of the game at 14:56. Wentworth had an 11-6 shot advantage in the middle stanza.
- With the Leopards going on the power play, Jack McGovern was pulled for an extra attacker to make it a 6-on-4 situation. However, O'Connell was the recipient of the puck after a turnover and fired a shot down the ice that went into the open net for a shorthanded tally.
- O'Connell's fourth goal of the game came with 1:57 left when he converted a penalty shot.
- Suffolk had a 29-23 shot advantage. McGovern made 24 saves.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- Tonight was the 51st all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth leads, 25-23-3.
