BOSTON, Mass. – The Western New England University men's lacrosse team received four goals and an assist from Logan Jenkins and three goals and an assist from Jacob Roy as the Golden Bears defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 11-4, in Conference of New England action Wednesday afternoon.
With the win Western New England improves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in CNE play while the Leopards fall to 4-3 (0-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth jumped on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead 1:06 into the contest as Tony Corrado scored from Gabe Cobham. Jenkins scored his team's next four goals (10:59, 10:15, 3:47, 0:22) to give the Golden Bears a 4-1 lead after one quarter.
- The Leopards got the only goal of the second quarter as Corrado set up Brendan Kroll, slicing the lead to 4-2 at the half.
- Just 50 seconds into the second half, Corrado put home his second of the game to make it a 4-3 game. From there, the Golden Bears scored four straight, with Roy recording two goals and an assist, to make it 8-3.
- Western New England added to its lead with three more in the fourth before Corrado completed his hat trick, scoring with 1:18 left.
- Corrado factored into all four of the Black & Gold's goals. Jake Caraluzzi, A.J. Smith, and Chuck Urda each scooped up three ground balls. Smith also made a career-high 16 saves.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today was the 19th all-time meeting between the two teams.
