#15 Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Regis

Alem Dubcak and Matthew Zegowtiz tally 9 kills apiece to lead the Black & Gold over Regis

BOSTON, Mass. – The #15 Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team swept the Regis Pride to win its third straight game. The Leopards improve to 13-7 overall and 3-1 in GNAC play. Alem Dubcak and Matthew Zegowtiz each tallied nine kills to lead the team. Nicolai Bell and Cody Popp had six and five kills, respectively. Dubcak led the team with four aces and eight digs while Brayden Green dished out 30 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Zegowitz and Popp tallied early finishes to give the Leopards a 5-2 edge out of the gate. Wentworth maintained the four-point lead before four straight points by the Pride tied the game at 12-12.
  • Bell and Benjamin Moughon added kills to put the Leopards in front 20-15. Attack errors and service errors gave Wentworth set-point before Moughon finished things off with a strong kill to secure the set.
  •  Kills from Zegowitz Popp gave Wentworth an early 5-2 lead in set two. The Pride struggled to find an offensive rhythm as attack errors pushed the Leopards' lead to 10-6. Regis cut the lead to two before Wentworth scored six of the next nine points to extend the lead to 17-12.
  • The sides went back and forth late in the set with both sides committing service and attack errors. Bell tallied a kill late before an attack error secured the set 25-18 and gave Wentworth a 2-0 lead.
  • Regis opened the scoring in set three and teams went back and forth, exchanging the first 10 points. Back-to-back finishes from Zegowitz gave the Leopards a five-point edge. Several errors by the Pride and kills from Luke McQuaid and Dubcak stretched the lead to 16-5.
  • McQuaid and Bell combined to keep the Leopards in complete control with a 20-8 lead late. Williams Biggs got on the box score with a kill to give the Leopards match-point before a service error secured the 25-14 win and the sweep.

THE SERIES

  • Tonight was the 24th all-time meeting between the teams. Wentworth is 23-0 against Regis.
