Softball Drops Pair to Rivier
Raiders fend off Leopards by respective 6-3 and 5-3 scores; Katie Kranz notches a hit, including a double, in each of the two contests

BOSTON, Mass. – In a pair of non-conference clashes on Carr Diamond, the Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team (11-15) fell to the visiting Rivier Raiders (12-12) by respective 6-3 and 5-3 scores on Wednesday evening.
GAME ONE: RIVIER 6, WENTWORTH 3
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A slew of RBI singles by the Raiders with multiple runners in scoring position brought home a total of four runs in the third inning. The Leopards answered in the back half of the frame, first with a single by Jess Rowe plating Lexi Lefkowski.
- Later in the frame, a ground out with just one out on the board brought home a run by Katelin Howe. A double by Kelsey Medalia plated a run by Rowe, further cutting the Black & Gold's deficit at 4-3.
- Rivier padded their lead to 6-3 in the fourth inning, bringing home a runner on a fielder's choice with the next capitalizing on an error. Howe (in the fifth) and Katie Kranz (seventh) managed to single onto base, but that was all a threat that Wentworth posed in the late going.
- Howe led the Leopards with at the plate with a pair of hits. In the circle, Julia Malowitz struck out two and surrendered five hits in four innings. Maddy Longoria surrendered four hits in three innings of relief.
GAME TWO: RIVIER 5, WENTWORTH 3
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Raiders gained an initial 1-0 edge on an RBI single by Olivia Couto in the first inning. The Black & Gold responded in the second inning, first with a double by Abby Delia plating a runner to knot the score. From there, a fielder's choice brought home a score by Jenna Roche before a ground out later in the frame plated Delia, marking a 3-1 advantage for Wentworth.
- Rivier cut into score in the third on an RBI single with two runners in scoring position. A double by Couto followed to plate an additional two runners before a sacrifice fly ran home Couto later on, giving the Raiders a 5-3 lead.
- Wentworth attempted to claw into the score in the seventh as a double by Kranz put the Leopards in scoring position. As a pinch runner, Malowitz advanced to third on a fly out but couldn't make her way home with Rivier fending off the Leopards, 5-3.
- Roche led the Black & Gold with her two hits while in the circle, Rowe struck out six and surrendered nine hits in a complete game.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked the 7th and 8th all-time meetings between the two teams.
