BEVERLY, Mass. – In a pair of Conference of New England matchups on Friday afternoon, the Endicott Gulls softball team rallied past Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 4-2 score in game one before taking an 11-0 win in the nightcap.
With the pair of wins, the Gulls improve to 14-9 overall (8-1 CNE). The Black & Gold slip to 11-17 overall (1-7 CNE).
GAME ONE: ENDICOTT 4, WENTWORTH 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Kyla Igawa got on base off of a single early in the first frame, Lexi Lefkowski belted a homer to put two runs on the board for the Leopards. The Gulls cut into the score in the back half of the second inning as an RBI double sent home a run, marking a 2-1 score.
- In the back half of the sixth, Endicott knotted the score at two-all on an RBI double by Chloe Shapleigh. A double by Elyse Saccoccio on the ensuing at-bat drove home Shapleigh, giving the Gulls a 3-2 edge, before a Paige Berdos single plated another run at 4-2.
- Each of Wentworth's three batters in the seventh came up empty. Offensively, Igawa led with two hits while Lefkowski picked up two RBI on her home run. In the circle, Julia Malowitz threw a complete game, fanning a batter and surrendering six hits.
GAME TWO: ENDICOTT 11, WENTWORTH 0 (FINAL – 5 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Gulls placed six runs on the board in the opening frame, with half of the runs being tacked on an error alongside a single by Ella Tower. In the second, an RBI single marked a 7-0 score before an RBI double and two groundouts in the third accounted for an additional three runs, extending the score to 10-0.
- A sacrifice fly for Endicott in the fourth inning pushed their lead to 11-0. In the back half of the fifth, Jess Rowe managed to find her way to second on a hit-by-pitch and a walk but was deemed out at third on the final out of the afternoon.
- Igawa and Abby Delia paced the offense with a hit apiece. In the circle, Julie Schriver took the loss while striking out a batter. In relief, Maddy Longoria pitched just over three frames.
