Softball Falls to Adrian, Carnegie Mellon
The Leopards go 0-2 on Monday, falling in 5 innings to Adrian and Carnegie Mellon
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team fell in both games on Monday afternoon. The Leopards fell to Adrian in five innings in the first game before dropping the second game in five innings to Carnegie Mellon.
GAME 1: Adrian 12, Wentworth 0
Brianna Miller and Lauren Trostel tallied the two hits for the Leopards in the opening game. Jasmien Feliciano and Abby Delia both drew a walk. Julia Malowitz fell to 0-2 on the season after 1.2 innings with one strikeout and five earned runs. Maddy Longoria threw 3.1 frames with seven earned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Adrian opened the scoring the first inning with an RBI single from Karsyn Malinich. Meghan Kowalyk followed with a two-run home run to center field to give the Bulldogs an early 3-0 lead. Two more runs in the second inning gave Adrian a 5-0 lead through two frames.
- Miller hit a leadoff single in the third and Feliciano's walk put two on for the Leopards, but both were left stranded. Malinich hit a triple in the fourth to score another run before coming home on a sacrifice fly from Kowalyk as Adrian led 7-0 after four innings.
- The Bulldogs' offense kept rolling, scoring five runs in the top of the fifth to take a commanding 12-0 lead. Quincy Bolduc reached first on an error, but the next three batters were retired, and Adrian took the win in five innings.
THE SERIES
- Today was the second all-time meeting between the teams.
GAME 2: Carnegie Mellon 12, Wentworth 0
Kyla Igawa and Kelsey Medalia tallied the Leopards' two hits on the afternoon, and Haleigh Borden made her collegiate debut in the fifth inning. Julie Schriver fell to 1-1 on the season after 1.0 inning. Abby Austen, Malowitz, and Longoria all pitched one frame for the Leopards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Igawa hit a two-out single in the first inning but was left stranded after a third strikeout of the frame by Gianna Adams. The Tartans offense was rolling to open the game as Reagan Diamond brought in two runs with a single to center field. Carnegie Mellon tacked on three more runs to lead 5-0 after one.
- Medalia got on with a leadoff single to third and got to second on a passed ball, but Adams struck out the next three hitters to leave her stranded. Kira Monji's RBI single made it 4-0 in the bottom of the second before Diamond doubled to center to bring in Monji. The Tartans added two more runs to take a 9-0 lead through two frames.
- Carnegie Mellon's offense continued to roll in the third as Michelle Pacheco doubled to right to score another run. Madison Heimann doubled to right center to score Pacheco and put the Tartans ahead 12-0 after three. The Leopards could not find a way back into the game and ultimately fell in five innings.
