Softball Earns Split at Rivier
The Leopards fell 6-5 before dominating game two 13-0 to earn the split against the Raiders
NASHUA, N.H. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team earned the split against the Rivier Raiders on Thursday afternoon. The Leopards fell 6-5 in game one before getting a big 13-0 win in game two to split the doubleheader.
Kyla Igawa went 2-3 with one RBI and Brianna Miler went 2-4 with one run and two RBI. Lexi Lefkowski had two hits and scored one run, and Abby Delia went 1-3 with two RBI. Quincy Bolduc had two hits and scored one run. Julia Malowitz threw 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and Abby Austen fell to 0-1 this season after throwing 2.1 frame with one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miller got the Leopards on the board in the second inning with a double to right field to score Bolduc and Jasmine Feliciano. Igawa followed with a single to left to bring in Miller and give Wentworth a 3-0 lead. The Raiders got a run back in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 3-1 through two innings.
- Delia's double in the fourth inning scored two runs to push Wentworth's advantage to 5-1. Rivier rallied in the bottom of the fifth with Hayley Rapaglia's double making it a 5-2 game. Two more runs came in from Sophia Quinlan's double, making it a 5-4 game. Kyleigh Guerette's bunt scored run to tie the game 5-5 through five innings.
- The Raiders took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with Avry Nelson's single scoring the game-winning run to take game one.
GAME 2: Wentworth 13, Rivier 0 (5 Inn.)
Lauren Trostel went 3-4 with two RBI and one run and Kaylee Habib went 3-4 with two runs. Lefkowski and Miller each tallied two hits. Miller added three RBI and four runs while Lefkowski had three RBI. Maddy Longoria threw five innings with four strikeouts to earn the shutout and improve to 1-2 this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delia grounded out to second to score Miller and give Wentworth a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Longoria threw a scoreless first with one strikeout. Miller reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on an error as two runs came in to push the Leopards' advantage to 3-0. Trostel's single down the left field line pushed the lead to four. Lefkowski's single score Igawa and the Leopards led 5-0 after two innings.
- Miller doubled down the left field line in the third to score Kaylee Habib before scoring on a throwing error to push the lead to 7-0. Longoria threw a scoreless third to keep Wentworth in control.
- The Leopards were held off the board in the fourth inning and another scoreless inning from Longoria kept the shutout alive. Wentworth's offense came alive in the fifth and blew the game open.
- Trostel singled through the left side to score Bolduc before Lefkowski's single up the middle scored two more runs to stretch the lead to 10-0. Feliciano's groundout brought in Trostel and Linnea Carlson's single scored Lefkowski to put the Leopards in front 12-0. Carlson came in to score as Bolduc reached on a fielder's choice to give Wentworth a big 13-0 lead. Longoria recorded one strikeout in the bottom of the fifth to secure the shutout win for the Leopards.

- Today was the 9th and 10th all-time meetings between the teams.
