Softball Falls to Hartford in CNE First Round
The Leopards’ season comes to an end after falling to the Hawks in the first round of the Conference of New England Tournament
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology softball team fell to the Hartford Hawks in the Conference of New England first round game hosted by Western New England University on Tuesday afternoon. Lauren Trostel went 1-3 with two RBI and one run while Kyla Igawa went 1-2 with one run. Four other Leopards tallied a hit in the loss. Julie Schriver fell to 9-11 this season after 1.2 innings and two strikeouts. Maddy Longoria threw 3.1 innings, striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Leopards put two runners on in the first inning but left both stranded. Hartford opened the scoring in the bottom of the inning after Katrina Baran hit an RBI single to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Anita Farkash's single to left drove in two runs to make it 3-0 after one.
- Adelie Beebe drilled a three-run home run to left field in the second inning to give Hartford a 6-0 lead.
- Trostel got the Leopards back in the game with a two-run homer to center field, cutting the deficit to four in the top of the third. Hartford tacked on a run in the bottom of the third to make it a 7-2 game through three frames.
- Both sides went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings before the Hawks added to their lead. Gia Miccio's double to center scored two runs to make it 9-2. Beebe followed with an RBI single to give Hartford the 10-2 victory after six innings.

- Today was the 7th all-time meeting between the teams.
