Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest at Western New England
The Golden Bears cruised to an 86-33 victory over the Black & Gold. Mia Luna Zayas and Taylor Garabedian scored 12 points each.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to the Western New England Golden Bears 86-33 on Saturday afternoon. Mia Luna Zayas and Taylor Garabedian each scored 12 points while Grace Moltenbrey added nine points. Garabedian led the team with seven rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Bears went up 7-0 before a triple from Zayas and a pair of free throws from Garabedian made it 7-5. Zayas knocked down another three to give Wentworth the lead just over the midway mark of the first quarter. Western New England went on 9-0 run to close the frame, taking a 16-8 lead into the second quarter.
- Sophie Hedge and Olivia Chrzan scored in the opening two minutes of the second to extend the Golden Bears' lead to 23-8. Moltenbrey hit a three to end the scoring drought and Garabedian's layup on the next possession gave the Leopards a bit of life. Both sides went cold from the floor for a few minutes before Paige Winter's layup gave the hosts a 29-13 lead with just under four minutes to play in the half. The Golden Bears closed the half on an 8-0 run to lead 37-13 at the break.
- The Leopards were held off the board until Garabedian made a layup with 5:46 to go in the third, now trailing 53-15. Zayas hit another three after a Garabedian steal, forcing Western New England to take a timeout. Garabedian added three more points over the next few minutes, but the Golden Bears took a 61-25 lead into the fourth.
- Chrzan hit a three to open the fourth as the hosts held a commanding lead. Zayas and Moltenbrey each added another triple each and Garabedian made a jumper to cap the scoring for the visitors. Western New England came away with the 86-33 victory.

- Today was the 48th all-time meeting between the teams.
