Women’s Basketball Tripped Up at University of New England
Mia Luna Zayas led the team with 13 points, draining four threes. Taylor Garabedian grabbed a team-high nine boards and three assists.

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball fell to the University of New England Nor'Easters on Tuesday night. Mia Luna Zayas shot 4-11 from three to lead the team with 13 points. Taylor Garabedian grabbed a team-high nine boards and dished three assists while Giana Gioia added six points on a pair of threes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Nor'Easters scored on their first three possessions of the first quarter as they built an early lead. Ayer scored four points for the Leopards to cut the deficit to six at the midway mark of the first. Kaia Anderson's jumper made it 12-4 before Garabedian and Rana got on the scoresheet to bring the visitors within seven. The Nor'Easters closed the frame on a 7-0 run to lead 23-10 at the end of the first.
- Wentworth struggled from the floor in the second quarter, going nearly five minutes without a field goal. Garabedian and Mia Luna Zayas each hit one free throw while the hosts extended their lead to 22 points, shooting 50% from the field in the first five minutes of the frame. Giana Gioia drained a three and Nya Breedy scored her first career bucket with a layup with just under three minutes to go. Hannah Blanchard scored back-to-back buckets to give the Nor'Easters a 23-point advantage. Zayas and Allie Dwyer exchanged threes in the closing 90 seconds as the hosts took a 43-20 lead into the half.
- The Leopards struggled from the floor to open the second half while the Nor'Easters found an offensive rhythm, extending the lead to 58-20 with 6:27 to play in the third. Zayas scored the Leopards' only points of the frame, hitting three triples late in the quarter. The Nor'Easters led 72-29 heading into the fourth quarter.
- Gioia hit another three pointer to bring her total to six points on the evening. University of New England won their seventh game of the season, cruising to an 85-32 win over the Leopards.
