Hartford Eases Past Women’s Basketball
Mia Luna Zayas scored a team-high 17 points while Elise Ayer led the Black & Gold with 12 rebounds. Taylor Garabedian added 10 points, 2 steals, and 2 assists.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to the Hartford Hawks 68-37 on Saturday afternoon. Mia Luna Zayas scored a team-high 17 points, shooting 50% from behind the arc. Elise Ayer led the Leopards on the glass with 12 rebounds, eight on the defensive end, and added six points. Taylor Garabedian scored 10 points to go with two steals, and two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead before Garabedian's jumper got Wentworth on the board. Ella Marchesani and Zayas exchanged threes before Lauren Sabia's jumper pushed the advantage to 13-5. Marchesani hit another triple and Sidnee Bowden added to the Hawks' lead, now sitting at 13 points with 90 seconds to play in the first. Hartford led 20-5 after 10 minutes.
- Wentworth went scoreless for the first 6:15 of the second half while the Hawks added to their lead. Zayas hit two of three free throws to end the scoring drought and Garabedian added one of two a minute later. After being fouled on a three-point attempt, Zayas hit all three free throws to make it 26-11. The Hawks closed the second quarter with a 10-3 run to lead 36-14 at the half. Zayas knocked down another triple in the final 30 seconds of the frame.
- Ayer's free throws were the first points of the second half. Zayas hit a jumper after buckets from Ava Naszimento and Kristen Trembley put the Hawks in front by 24 points. Ayer finished a nice layup and Zayas knocked down another three, but Hartford's lead stood at 48-23. The Hawks led 53-29 heading into the final frame.
- Gabrielle Matthews scored on the Hawks' first possession of the fourth quarter and held the Leopards scoreless for nearly three minutes. Ayer's layup broke the scoring drought and cut the lead to 55-31. After Madison Baird hit a three, both sides went scoreless for nearly four minutes. Hartford went on to win the game 68-37 while the Leopards remain winless in conference play.

- Today was the fifth all-time meeting between the teams.
