Women’s Basketball Falls to Nichols
Mia Luna Zayas scored a team-high 17 points, shooting 5-11 from behind the arc

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's basketball team fell to the Nichols Bison 79-37 on Tuesday night. Mia Luna Zayas led the Leopards with 17 points, shooting 5-11 from three. Taylor Garabedian added nine points and seven rebounds while Elise Ayer grabbed six boards. Gianna Gioia and Garabedian each tallied two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bison got off to a fast start, leading 10-3 at the midway mark of the first frame. Garabedian got the Leopards on the board with a layup and one of two free throws. Nichols hit several shots to push the lead to 21-3 and Wentworth called timeout. Garabedian scored a bucket and Zayas hit two threes to close the quarter with Nichols in front 21-11.
- Zayas finished a nice layup, but the Bison extended their lead to 15 points four minutes into the second quarter. Ayer added a bucket and Zayas hit two threes late in the frame to cut into the lead. Dakoda Correia hit a three at the buzzer to give Nichols a 43-24 lead heading into the halftime break.
- Gioia scored the first bucket of the half, a nice layup with an assist from Garabedian. Garabedian added a layup, but the Leopards were then held scoreless until the end of the third. Nichols continued to shoot the ball well and led 70-28 after three quarters.
- Kailee McPhillips hit a three in the fourth quarter after a nice pass from Zayas. Both sides went scoreless for a few minutes before Kya Burdier's free throw ended the scoring drought for the Bison. Garabedian completed a three-point play and Grace Moltenbrey knocked down a three to wrap up the scoring for Wentworth. Nichols went on to win 79-37.

- Tonight was the 47th all-time meeting between the teams.
