Johnson & Wales (RI) Tops Women’s Lacrosse
The Black & Gold fall to 1-4 in CNE action while Roger Williams improves to 3-2 in conference play

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales (RI) on Tuesday night. Sydney Vega scored two goals from two shots on goal. Grace Del Pilar added a goal on two shots and led the team with eight draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The sides went back and forth in the first seven minutes before the Wildcats broke the deadlock with a goal from Sidney Mayers. Less than 30 seconds later, Mayers added her second goal of the game to double the lead.
- Cassie Burke scored a pair of goals, one from a free position shot, to push the lead to four. Vega netted her first of the evening with 1:01 to play in the first quarter. The Wildcats led 4-1 after one.
- Mayers scored her hat trick goal 33 seconds into the second quarter and Kelsey Higgins added another tally two minutes later to make it 6-1 Wildcats. A free position goal from Mia Kuilan and a tally from Riley Shepley pushed the lead to seven. Higgins and Mayers combined for three goals to stretch the hosts' advantage to 11-1 at the half.
- Bailey Paige and Burke added to the lead early in the third. Burke scored a free position shot and Higgins added another tally to push the lead to 15-1. Vega tallied her second goal of the game with just over a minute remaining in the quarter.
- The Wildcats stayed in complete control and added two goals in the fourth quarter. Del Pilar got on the scoresheet with her first goal of the contest with 6:50 to play. Johnson & Wales tacked on two more goals to win 19-3, moving to 3-2 in conference play. Wentworth falls to 1-4 in CNE action.

- Tonight was the 2nd all-time meeting between the teams.
