Richard Repeats as Rookie of the Week
Emily Richard nets Wentwoth's lone goal in the CCC title game and helps hold opponents to two goals combined in to CCC Tournament
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – For the second week in a row, freshman midfielder Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week. Richard was honored for her play during the week of November 3-9.
Richard helped the Leopards advance to their first CCC championship game since the 2003 season by helping to hold third-seeded Eastern Nazarene to one goal in a 1-all draw in the semifinals. Wentworth would advance to the title game with a 5-4 win in the penalty kick round. In the championship game, she tallied Wentworth's goal in the 83rd minute of play and helped hold top-seeded Roger Williams to a single goal in a 1-all draw. The Hawks took home the conference title with a 4-1 win in the penalty kick round.
Starting 19 of the 21 games in which she has appeared in, Richard has tallied a pair of goals and assisted on five others for nine points. Her five assists rank her second on the team and she has played solidly on the defensive side, helping the Leopards allow 12 fewer goals than they allowed a season ago and post the fifth lowest single-season goals against average in program history.
Wentworth sits at 9-8-4 overall and awaits a possible ECAC Tournament berth, which will be announced later this afternoon.
