CCC Women's Soccer Tournament Pairings Announced
Second-seeded Leopards host seventh-seeded Curry Saturday at Noon; first home playoff game for Wentworth since 2005
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Roger Williams University has earned the top seed for the 2015 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer championship, which begins with quarterfinal matchups on campus sites Saturday afternoon.
Ranked fourth in the most recent NCAA Division III New England regional rankings, the Hawks (16-0-3 overall) earned the top seed in the conference tournament after compiling an 8-0-1 record in CCC play. Roger Williams will host No. 8 seed Eastern Nazarene (5-8-3, 2-5-2) in a quarterfinal contest Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Other quarterfinal matchups slated for Saturday include second-seeded Wentworth (15-2-1, 8-1-0), which was ranked 12th in the most recent NCAA Division III New England regional rankings, hosting seventh-seeded Curry (13-5-1, 3-5-1) at 12:00 p.m. In addition, third-seeded University of New England (11-6-0, 6-3-0) will host sixth-seeded Gordon (5-8-3, 3-5-1) at 12:00 p.m., while fourth-seeded Endicott (8-7-2, 5-3-1) will host fifth-seeded Salve Regina (9-8-1, 4-4-1) at 3:30 p.m.
CCC tiebreaking procedures were used to determine seeds for Gordon and Curry, both of which tied for sixth place with identical 3-5-1 record in conference play. The Fighting Scots were awarded the sixth seed by virtue of a 1-0 victory over the Colonels on October 3.
This marks just the second time in program history these two schools will meet in the postseason. On Nov. 1, 2003, Wentworth defeated Curry, 3-1 in the CCC Quarterfinals with that game also being played at Wentworth. Including last Saturday's 3-1 Leopard victory, Wentworth owns a 14-5 series edge, including winning the last four games between the two schools.
Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinal round which will be played on Wednesday, November 4 at the sites of the each higher seed. Kickoff times will be announced. If Wentworth wins, the Leopards would host a semifinal game at 7:00 p.m.
Semifinal winners will square off for the conference championship on Saturday, November 7 at the site of the higher seed at a time to be announced.
