BOSTON, Mass. – Four different student-athletes tallied goals, including Lina Arlander who also added an assist as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team shut out MCLA, 4-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday night.
With the win the Leopards improve to 2-0-1, while the Trailblazers fall to 0-1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The hosts controlled play from the start and had an early opportunity to score off a corner kick at the five-minute mark. Despite the attempt going wide, Wentworth had two more shot attempts before another corner kick set up a scoring chance.
- Wentworth finally got on the board at the 14:37 mark as Brooke Finlay took a shot that was initially saved by MCLA keeper Destiny Rivas. The rebound came out to Kyra Forsberg on the left side, who tapped the ball home.
- At the 18:08 mark, Lily Carlson, who had a pair of goals on Sunday, added to her season tally when Brianna Reid sent a pass across the box where Carlson scored inside the left post, making it 2-0.
- With 1:23 left in the half, Arlander gave the Leopards a 2-0 lead. Kayla Heister made a touch pass to Rachel Hagerty. Hagerty found Arlander down low for the goal.
- The Black & Gold continued to control play in the second half and, at the 65:32 mark, Arlander sent a pass towards the left corner of the box where Isabella Cunha fired a shot to the upper right corner.
- In her first collegiate start, Kyleigh Murphy made a pair of saves – both in the second half – to record the shutout. Wentworth had a 39-4 shot advantage, which included 19-1 over the first 45:00. The Leopards had an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
