McLane and Sanders Power Women’s Volleyball to Sixth Straight Win
Kate McLane led the way with 14 kills while Emma Sanders added ten. The Leopards move to 6-1 in conference and 17-4 overall this season.

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team extended its win streak to six games with a 3-1 win over Roger Williams on Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Leopards into a tie for first place in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth jumped out to an early lead in set one with McLane tallying two kills. Roger Williams battled back, and the sides exchanged points, tying the first set at 9-9. A 9-3 run behind strong plays from McLane and Riley Schoonmaker put the Leopards in control with an 18-12 lead. An ace from Kate Koliopoulos followed by a Sanders kill and service error put Wentworth within a point of taking the first frame. Kinsey Lutz's kill secured the 25-14 win in set one.
- Service and attack errors put Roger Williams ahead 5-2 in set two before the hosts stretched their advantage to 14-6 behind an ace from Marianna Hernandez. Kills from Lutz, Schoonmaker and Brianna Picchietti cut the lead to five as Wentworth gained momentum. The Hawks closed the set with an 11-8 run to win set two 25-17 and tie the match.
- McLane's back-to-back kills and two errors from Roger Williams put Wentworth ahead 4-0 early in set three. The Leopards built an 8-2 lead before the hosts cut it back down to two. Schoonmaker and Sydnee Smith tallied kills to give Wentworth separation at 11-7. Two late aces from Kayla DeCastro put the Leopards up 21-13 and a kill from McLane secured the 25-19 win in set three.
- The fourth set went back-and-forth with the teams tied 7-7 to open the frame. Kills from McLane and Sanders and an ace from Smith powered Wentworth to take an 11-7 lead. The Hawks stayed within three points until a 6-0 run put the Leopards ahead 20-11. Back-to-back kills from Emma Sanders won the set 25-18 and the game 3-1.
- Smith led the team with 27 assists and 16 digs while Schoonmaker hit .529 with nine kills. Sanders had a strong defensive game as well, tallying 15 digs and one block.
THE SERIES:
- Tonight was the 53rd all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth has won the last five matchups.
