Hockey Skates Past Suffolk, 8-2
Skylur Jameson scores two goals and an assist as the Leopards roll to their sixth straight win and pull within a point of first place Curry
BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) netted a pair of goals and an assist for three points to lead Wentworth to an 8-2 ECAC Northeast ice hockey victory over Suffolk Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena.
The visiting Leopards (16-6-1, 9-2-1 ECAC Northeast) snapped a 1-1 tie midway through the opening stanza with four answered tallies in less than eight minutes to grab a 5-1 advantage after 20 minutes of play, and markers off the sticks of junior Reed Rushing (Seattle, Wash.) and freshman Cameron Gibson (Valencia, Calif.) in the first 5:17 of the middle period extended that margin to 7-1. Goals by Skylur Jameson and freshman Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) sandwiched a late second period tally for the host Rams (2-20, 0-12 ECAC Northeast) by sophomore Wes Bonnell (Flenton, Del.) over the final 34-plus minutes of action to account for the final score.
Rushing and Gibson each finished with a goal and an assist in the triumph for Wentworth, which also received single tallies off the sticks of senior Casey Shade (Anchorage, Ak.), junior Joel Vastl (North Salem, N.H.) and freshman Sean McLaughlin (North Billerica, Mass.). Senior Mike Paglino (Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.) registered three assists on the day for the Leopards, who also received single helpers from junior Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.), sophomore Fred Gervasi (Mississauga, Ont.) and freshmen Mike Domsodi (Kirkland, Que.), Ben Iwanowski (Dorval, Que.), Michael Heffner (Lloydminster, Sask.), Seric Kapp (Schaeafferstown, Pa.) and Beau Burgau (New Ulm, Minn.).
Bonnell and freshman Tim Sprague (Plymouth, Mass.) each collected a goal and an assist in the setback for Suffolk, which also received a helper off the stick of sophomore Jon Stauffer (Lansdale, Pa.). Freshman Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que.) picked up the win in goal for Wentworth with nine saves over the first two periods of play, as fellow freshman Jeff Giordani (Quincy, Mass.) stopped all four third period shots he faced for the visitors. Sophomore Cam Kelley (Arlington, Mass.) made 15 first period stops in the setback for Suffolk, while freshman Brett Roman (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) made 23 saves over the final 40 minutes of action for the hosts as the Leopards outshot the Rams by a 46-15 margin for the contest.
Suffolk hosts Western New England in an ECAC Northeast outing on Wednesday evening at Walter Brown Arena beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Wentworth hosts Curry in an ECAC Northeast match-up on Thursday evening at Matthews Arena in Boston that faces off at 8:00 p.m. A Leopard win over the Colonels would move the Black & Gold into first place in the league with a game to play.
