Men's Soccer, Emmanuel Play to a Scoreless Draw
Leopards and Saints battle for 90 minutes in the home and New Sweeney Field opener
August 31, 2025
BOSTON, Mass. – In the first Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team game played on New Sweeney Field, the Leopards and Colleges of the Fenway rival Emmanuel played to a 0-0 draw.
With the result, both teams stand at 0-0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wentworth's defense didn't allow an offensive chance to take shape after an early Emmanuel corner kick and the Leopards countered two minutes later with a shot attempt that sailed high. After Adrian Sanchex made a save in the sixth minute, Carlos Jimenez put a shot on net in the 12th minute that was saved by the Saints' Maddox Pierce.
- A pair of Leopard corner kicks yielded no offensive opportunities while the Saints had two corner kicks of their own and eventually a shot on net that Sanchez stopped. In the 29th minute, Angel Rojas nearly put the hosts ahead, 1-0, off a corner kick from Alex Burnham, however, Pierce came up with the stop to keep the game scoreless.
- Early in the second half, Emmanuel had a header off a corner kick attempt go wide, while David Lemus' bid in the 62nd minute was saved by Pierce. Off a free kick from just inside midfield in the 70th minute, Rojas had his shot go off the crossbar, while, with just under three minutes left, Mustafa Hassan nearly put Wentworth ahead, but his header went to the right of the mark.
- Sanchez made four saves on the day. Shots were even at 10-all, while Emmanuel had a slim edge on corner kicks, 6-5.
