BOSTON, Mass. – Shahmeer Waseem's goal with 11:05 remaining in the second half broke a 0-0 tie and lifted the Clark University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology Wednesday night on Sweeney Field.
With the win the Cougars improve to 2-0-0 on the season while the Leopards fall to 0-1-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A blocked shot by Wentworth's David Lemus eventually led to a Leopard corner kick in the 15th minute, however, the Black & Gold could not create a scoring chance.
- Michael Liquori and Lemus each put shots on target 90 seconds apart but were thwarted by Jaime Pedraza.
- In the 38th minute, Vinny Dentrone had his bid to break the stalemate stopped by Pedraza.
- Both teams had chances throughout the second half but a defensive miscue by the hosts led to the game's lone goal as Waseem capitalized on a Wentworth turnover at the top of the box and put a shot home inside the right post.
- With 53 seconds left, Dylan Michaud had a chance to tie the game as the Clark net was empty. However, his shot was cleared out by a back line defender.
- Pedraza made four saves for the Cougars. Adrian Sanchez made one stop of the Leopards. Wentworth had a 13-12 shot advantage and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
