Fighting Scots score twice in the first half in a 3-0 win over the Leopards

WENHAM, Mass. – Benny Simpson scored a goal and an assist to help the Gordon College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Conference of New England play Tuesday night.

With the win the Fighting Scots improve to 8-4-2 overall and 5-1 in CNE play while the Leopards fall to 3-8-4 (2-4).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Gordon applied pressure early, with a pair of shots and a pair of corner kicks. One of the shot attempts went on net, which was saved by Adrian Sanchez.
  • At the 9:10 mark, the Fighting Scots took a 1-0 lead when Santiago Hernandez set up Simpson.
  • In the 20th minute, Mustafa Hussan took Wentworth's first shot – shortly after he entered the game – however, the attempt was saved.
  • Kingston McGee nearly tied the game at the 29:47 mark when his shot hit the crossbar.
  • With two minutes left in the first half, the Fighting Scots took a 2-0 lead when Simpson took a free kick and Ignacio Fernandez sent the ball into the net.
  • Gordon added a third goal with 10:04 left after William Adamson scored from Sylver Godines. Hassan and Dylan Michaud led the Black & Gold with two shots apiece.
  • Adrian Sanchez made one save. Wentworth had a 5-4 edge on corner kicks.

ALL-TIME SERIES:

  • Today was the 37th all-time meeting between the two teams.
