BOSTON, Mass. – Playing its first true home match of the 2025 season, the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team picked up its 11th sweep of the season as the Leopards defeated Plymouth State, 3-0, in non-conference action Thursday night.
With the win the Leopards improve to 14-4 overall while the Panthers fall to 13-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Three ties through the first eight points left the score at 4-all after a Mike Swanson kill. Plymouth State took an 11-6 lead but a 7-2 run capped off by a Kate McLane kill evened the score at 13-all. After the Panthers scored three straight points to take a 16-3 lead, a service error gave the Leopards a point which started a 5-1 lead and put the hosts in front, 18-17. Plymouth State reclaimed the lead at 20-18 but Wentworth responded with a 5-1 run and led, 23-21, after a McLane kill. The Panthers tied the set at 23-all before a McLane kill and a visitors' attack error gave the hosts a 25-23 opening set win.
- After falling behind, 2-0, early in the second set, kills from Riley Schoonmaker and McLane tied the set at 2-all and started a 5-1 run, capped off by an Olivia Vaughn ace. Vaughn served an ace to make it 13-10 but the Panthers responded with a 4-1 spurt and tied the set, 14-all. Kinsey Lutz put down a kill to start a 9-1 run and put the Black & Gold on top, 22-15. Plymouth State used a 5-1 run of its own to pull within three at 23-20 but McLane recorded a kill and the Panthers committed an attack error, making it 25-20 and putting Wentworth on top, 2-0. The Leopards hit .464 (14-1-28).
- Plymouth State took a 4-2 lead to open the third set but an Emma Sanders kill started a 10-3 run and put Wentworth on top, 12-7. With the score 15-8, Plymouth State scored four of the next five points to make it 16-12. However, a 9-3 run by Wentworth, capped off by a match-ending kill from Lutz, made the score 25-15.
